KILL THEM ALL AND COME BACK ALONE FILM

Again, I am positively surprised. Packed with manic energy and constantly creative ways of framing shootouts, Kill Them All and Come Back Alone feels less like a western and more like a guns-blazing shoot em up with a stetson and a nice set of spurs. Despite that incredible and nihilistic title, this Enzo G. There’s a few glitches in the script, some logical mistakes, but aside from that the film really goes along well. This is pure, unashamed escapism from start to finish and Castellari is certainly the man for the job. Castellari directed Western is actually light in tone, bordering on comedy. One of the coolest spaghetti’s I’ve seen with a post Rifleman Chuck Connors leading a “Dirty Dozen” style group of misfits on a mission in the Old West.

But this 40min interview is really interesting and covers a lot of ground. Again, I am positively surprised. There’s all sorts of jumping, fighting, exploding and shooting, all very well staged and shot in an artistic fashion.

Seemingly every shot is fun and inventive. If you can look past that kill them all and come back alone film, this movie’s a blast. The iflm of the film is clearly based on The Dirty Dozen, a very successful american war film from the previous year except, in true italian genre cinema tradition, the budget is smaller so we get a kind of ‘Dirty Half Dozen’ instead.

It’s kind of a mean-spirited Spaghetti Western “Mission: Similar to the Sabata series of films and kil, late-cycle Spaghetti’s, this one relies more on action than atmosphere Clyde Mac Kay Connors assembles a gang of experienced jobsters to pull a heist on a union army stronghold. Castellari really knows his stuff and so you get a kill them all and come back alone film professional action flick with no time wasted on things you don’t need to see.

Castellari directed Western is actually light in tone, bordering on comedy.

Clyde Chuck Connors is hired by a Confederate General to carry out a raid on a Union stronghold and steal the million dollars worth of gold coins hidden there amongst an arsenal of dynamite.

An orgy of roaring six shooters and anguished death rattles, Kill Them All and Come Back Alone recalls the bloody ending of Massacre Time, just stretched out for 95 minutes. From the DVD’s menu you can tell that there is better audio available at least for the music.

One of those kill them all and come back alone film with a great title where it’s substance can’t fully live up to it. The soldiers stop them while trying to cross the river, so they dump the gold and enter captivity. Mac Kay though also had another assignment: All the films not on my Ultimate Film Canon lists.

Kill Them All and Come Back Alone doesn’t even attempt that much and ultimately the film becomes forgetable as a result. He is aided by a group of prisoners and a prison guard but he is double-crossed along the way.

A really decent movie.

What makes this film worth watching is definitely its entertainment value, and the fact that it doesn’t come across as cheap assembly-line fare, Castellari really put some effort in it. Castellari would revisit the idea again in his equally exciting macaroni combat film Inglorious Bastards.
